Making Good Choices

I’m really proud that when I went to the bar tonight I chose to order a raw vegetable platter instead of my usual hot wings. It was a grueling decision and it came really close to going the other way, but under self pressure I caved and got the vegetable platter.

It feels good to make the right choice, the healthy choice.

The vegetable platter had a raw chopped tomatoe, a whole raw cucumber sliced, raw celery and carrot sticks, BUT I did eat them with blue cheese dressing. So my vegetables totaled about 100 calories, but the blue cheese dressing added another 500 calories to the total. I just couldn’t bring myself to eat the vegetables raw. I’m not that hardcore yet. My total for the day is still only 1300 calories so I’m not too mad about the blue cheese dressing. The veggie platter was very filling too. Next time I will do it without the blue cheese for sure.

I also didn’t drink any alcohol. I had a diet coke. A healthier choice would have been water, but what’s the fun in going to a bar and drinking water. I do sometimes order water at restaurants and then put my little crystal light on the go packet in it but I don’t feel comfortable doing that at a bar. I also didn’t want to order juice because it has too many calories and I already tried ordering soda water with a splash of cranberry but that’s not very tasty. Given the options I chose zero calorie diet coke and I’m fine with that.

Did you know that one fried wing from Hooters has 175 calories in it? I usually eat a minimum of 6 wings when I order 10. So thats over 1000 calories and its not counting the fact that I always eat blue cheese with my wings. I don’t know how so many calories are packed into one tiny lil thing like a chicken wing.

Anyway I’m sure I’ll be able to eat a couple of chicken wings again someday, but not while I’m struggling to get out of the 240’s.
